Over the past few years, I have had the pleasure of photographing conductor Stephanie Childress on several occasions, creating a body of portraits that traces her remarkable artistic journey. Born in France and raised in the United Kingdom, Childress has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting conductors of her generation, earning international recognition for her work in both the concert hall and the opera house.
These photographs, made between 2023 and 2026, explore different facets of her personality: the intensity and focus required on the podium, the quiet reflection behind the public role, and the individuality that has become central to her artistic identity.
