Jo Quail

Photography & design

Cellist & Composer

Jo Quail, the internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist, marries mastery of her instrument with innovative techniques to produce and share evocative music for audiences worldwide. I had the privilege to photograph Jo on several occasions covering her live shows and quirky on-location performances. Jo's ideas of her second album involved a portrait of her as a performing artist with the overpowering forces of nature that I turned into life combining editorial photography and graphic design. We decided to shoot at St. Leonard's Church in London and Pett Level in East Sussex because they represent Quail's practice from the source of inspiration to public delivery. Despite the cold and stormy weather, the photographs perfectly encapsulate Jo's unstoppable drive to create the sublime.
