Case Study
Gallery photography
Sotheby's is one of the world's oldest auction houses specialising in fine and decorative art, jewelry, real estate, and collectibles. My commissions for the company oscillate between exhibition installation and action shots for the sales department and on-figure jewellery photography. The exhibition photography encompasses natural gallery shots of the public engaging with art, focusing on capturing intimate moments of people lost in thought. Installation shots of gallery rooms are taken with the highest attention to a proper exposure of the paintings and free-standing art installations, including wide-angle shots featuring the public engaging with the display and close-ups shots of individual artworks.
On-figure photography
Sotheby's offers the most extraordinary jewels in the world, dating from the 19th century to the present day. While photographing such rare and iconic pieces my ultimate aim is to highlight the beauty and craftsmanship of each piece and present it in a fashion of a natural life-style editorial that will speak to each modern-day collector. Photographed with a mixture of flashes and ambient daylight, on-figure jewels are always properly lit and carefully arranged to arrest the eye from the first sight. These photographs compete with the sterile aesthetics of packshot images as they are the new standard on social media platforms, printed catalogues and brochures.
